Congratulations to the Avery County Humane Society

We adopted Gracie from the Avery County Humane Society. It is a bit far from our home. We wanted a Jack Russell terrier, though. It seemed that every time we found one nearby, he or she was adopted before we could get there. That’s when we decided to try searching on Petfinder.com.

The shelter staff was very nice. When we got lost trying to find the shelter, one of the workers drove to us and led us back to the shelter.

Since adopting Gracie, we have kept the shelter on our radar. In their June newsletter, they had a great announcement. They have been striving for some time to become a “no kill” shelter. They have not euthanized an adoptable animal since last August.

In a perfect world, animals would never be euthanized. The reality is some shelters face hard choices on a daily basis. There are not enough homes. Congratulations to the Avery County Humane Society for trying hard to become a no-kill shelter.

In the newsletter, they tell about some of the creative ways they have succeeded in this effort.  To read all about it, here is a link to the newsletter: http://archive.constantcontact.com/fs050/1103595218136/archive/1109942438363.html

Congratulations again!
