I received a call from my grandmother a bit ago. She was upset because someone told her the flea medicine she was about to use on her dog was horrible. I talked with her awhile and explained that, yes, some flea medicines have been known to cause a reaction. Some pets have been sickened by flea medicine. Just like some people are allergic to penicillin. Does that mean you should NEVER use penicillin?
I write this blog and offer my opinions. They are opinions based upon my experience, but I do not have veterinary training. When it comes to taking care of your furry friend, it is important to know that everyone has an opinion. Do your due diligence. By all means, look at medical references on the Internet. Listen to the experiences others have had. Most importantly, always talk with your vet before trying something that could be potentially harmful (physically or mentally) to your pet. Consultation with a trained medical or behavioral professional should always be part of your research.
Remember – opinions are like belly buttons; everyone has one.
