Bison Designs Water Bottle Carrier and Bowl Set

Bison Designs Water Bottle Carrier and Bowl Set (bisondesigns.com)
About $16 (Worth it!!)

Last year, we bought a similar carrier and were greatly disappointed. The bottle holder was flimsy. The condensation on the bottle leaked through the thin material, leaving a nice wet spot on the clothing of whoever happened to be carrying the water bottle. The bowl’s material was of similar quality so more water leaked out of than stayed in the bowl.

A few months ago, we found another set. It is made by Bison Designs. Here is a photo:

This set is wonderful. The bottle holder is thick and keeps the water cool. The water bowl fits into the little pouch on the front of the holder. The bowl’s material is thick; no water leaked from the bowl.

The carrier has a strap so you can carry it on your shoulder like a purse. It also has loops in the back if you wanted to attach it to a belt instead.

Gracie really liked the bowl. She is sometimes hesitant with portable bowls for some reason. Maybe the smell? She did not have any issues with this one. The bowl is appropriately sized for a small to medium dog. It might be a bit small for a dog with a broad mouth such as a Rottweiler or St. Bernard.

We bought our carrier at Three Dog Bakery in Asheville. According to the company’s website, you can find the carrier at REI, Cabela’s, Campmore, Petco, and Mast General Store, among other stores. It is a great product. We give it four paws up!

Outward Hound Portable Water Sling with Bowl

Sold at PetSmart

When I spotted this kit at PetSmart, I thought it was a fantastic idea. The blue sling holds a standard 20-ounce water bottle. The khaki water bowl is tucked away in the little pouch on the front of the sling. You unfold the bowl, give your pet a drink, and then store it once again in its little pouch. So convenient, right?

Unfortunately, the water bowl is not quite waterproof. The material is not as thick as it needs to be. Gracie prefers to sip a little water and have more later. By the second stop, the bowl begins to sweat. By the third, you are left with a little ring of water on the ground where you place the bowl. Subsequent stops lead to a soggy bowl.

The material on the blue sling part is thin too. The water bottle of course will have moisture beading on the sides. The water eventually soaks through the fabric and moistens your clothing. For me personally, it is not a big deal, since I am usually covered in white dog hair at that point. All vanity is gone. Regardless of that, the product should be made with a thicker material. As an added benefit, the water would probably stay cooler longer.

After I bought the Outward Hound model, I found that another company makes a better version. This product is so annoying that I am going to buy the other model. Look for the review in the future.
